Commercialization of biotech and pharmaceutical projects is very resource consuming, with access to advanced equipment, time and a wide range of competences as being key ingredients. A bottleneck in this process is the validation of the targets for treatment, a critical step which can greatly increase the value of ventures in the eyes of investors as well as large pharmaceutical companies.
SCBI’s screening facilities for target validation and lead discovery will help increase the value of academic projects in the region significantly, and thus bridge the present gap between academic and commercial R&D in biomedicine. The long-term objectives of this project are to:
- Improve research possibilities through new tools (bioprobes) and public chemical biology databases.
- Facilitate collaboration between industry and academia.
- Expand the regional biotech industry.
- Improve health through better treatments and diagnostic tools.
