Allergy Vaccine Project to China

Allergy Vaccine Project to China

The Allergy Vaccine Project is going to Beijing, China to attend the BIT Life Sciences’ Annual World Vaccine Congress, held during the 24-26 of March.

The congress is known as the largest meeting in China devoted exclusively to the research on vaccines and associated with technologies for disease prevention and treatment. The congress will cover most of the topics that are of interest to the project such as vaccine regulatory issues, public health, safety as well as ethical issues, clinical practices, financing, product licensing and many more.

- This is the perfect arena for us to look for future partners since it is crucial for us to get to the market reasonably soon, says Annika Bergström, project developer together with Sara Lorentzon and Lan Yang.

-All the big players in the pharmaceutical industry will attend and it will be very exciting to see the international interest of this allergy vaccine, Sara fills in.

The Allergy Vaccine project is supported by Encubator and developed by students from Göteborg International Bioscience Business School (GIBBS). The project is based on the idea of the hygiene hypothesis, which claims that the increase of allergies is caused by the fact that we live in a too clean environment. The research is stemming from Gothenburg University performed by professors Agnes Wold, Anna Rudin and Ingegerd Adlerbert. When studying newborn children, a connection was found between microbial gut colonization and allergy development. Children who were colonized by a specific bacterium early in life did not develop allergies to the same extent as the rest of the children. The intention is to develop a vaccine against allergy, constituting of stimulatory parts of this specific bacterium, to compensate for the lack of microbial stimulation in our clean environment. This revolutionary technology can prevent the development of atopic allergies such as asthma, hay fever, and eczema among others.

- The idea behind this project is extremely interesting and we believe in the project to a 100%. Now we will see what the rest of the world thinks of it, says Lan Yang.
is revolutionizing the prevention of allergy development.
