Competing with 22 chosen innovative medtech companies from around the world who all had a chance to pitch their company to over 30 potential investors from Sweden, USA, India and China, Arterion was the sole winner of the 2010 MedTech Investment Day Award.
Arterion's CEO, Karl Richard Nilsson is thrilled about the award and explains, "We had a two minute pitch on stage and the jury was looking for a unique idea and a good team and I believe they saw this in us".
The jury motivated their choice by explaining that Arterion has a simple but elegant and innovative idea for a medical necessity and their solution can be applied to many different areas but they have chosen to focus on one. The jury also describe Arterion as an enthusiastic and humble team with high competence.
"Now we know that we are heading in the right direction", Karl Richard says. He continues, "We spoke to a few investors and we have some interest so the future looks bright".
As a prize, Arterion has received SEK 50 000 and a years membership with Swecare, a company who works with bringing Swedish medical know-how and technology to healthcare facilities all around the world. Arterion has already been acknowledged in NyTeknik.
Arterion develops small diameter artificial blood vessels to be used as replacement grafts in humans. By using microbial-derived cellulose and controlling the habitat of the microbes, Arterion can create vessels with better mechanical and biological properties than all known competitors.
MedTech Investment Day was held February 11th at Kista Science Tower and was attended by 150 people.
