Encubator is proud to announce that our portfolio company Lamera has been acknowledged as an exemplary spin-off venture and awarded accordingly in the second annual Academic Enterprise Awards Europe (ACES), which was held in Paris on December 10th 2009 and awarded by the Science|Business Innovation Board. The ACES is a pan-European competition among companies spun out from universities – to recognize the best academic entrepreneurs from across all technology disciplines. This year, the ACES drew nominations from around Europe and culminated in the awards ceremony at Paris City Hall.
Lamera provides the Hybrix™ composite material which delivers the same strength as ordinary steel but at a fraction of the weight. “The idea of Hybrix™ composite technology was born when I realized that we needed to reduce the weight of steel by at least 30 - 50 per cent to meet future demands. The new ultra-light stainless steel composite we developed can be formed and deep drawn, unlike common lightweight materials, and shows great potential to future design”, says Roland N-G Gustavsson at Volvo Technology and Inventor of the Hybrix™ composite technology.
This original idea, which Lamera is realized upon, was brought to Encubator and Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship (CSE) from Volvo Technology Transfer and was initially developed as a project in the CSE class of 2004. This exciting and highly anticipated venture has evolved since and is now on the verge of conquering a new market segment. Until recently Lamera has focused on proving the true value of their technology, and financing their operations, by providing high-end solutions for clients which act in the extreme weight sensitive segment of the market but is now moving on to the next phase.
"We are looking at making investments in our production facilities in order to reach clients who are looking for lower weights but not at the same costs as the aerospace-industry. Vehicles, buildings and appliances, to mention a few, the potential market is enormous, says Mattias Grufberg, CSE alumnus of 2004, co-founder and Market Manager at Lamera.
Besides Mattias Grufberg, Lamera was also represented by Anders Axelsson, CEO, co-founder and CSE alumnus of 2004.
